The world’s demand for seafood has tremendously outweighed the Earth’s natural ability to replenish its fish stocks, with many areas experiencing overfishing. Therefore, the aquaculture industry seeks new technology to increase production and sustainability of seafood. The use of artificial intelligence in aquaculture for intensification has been explored and discussed with relevance to current aquaculture issues, to rapidly produce high fish stocks with low cost and labour.

Current technologies in aquaculture have proven that cognitive automation contributes hugely to reduce labor, time and utility costs. These computerised systems have increased efficiency, conserve our precious resources and improved physiological rates (e.g. growth) of cultured species. In the future, the succession of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in aquaculture would greatly enhance processes in farms, increasing its production and profits in the long-term. This informative sharing session will provide insights of AI and its integration into systems - feed control, water parameters monitoring, biological filtration and removal and ultimately, applications in Smart-Farms for intensification. The intensive culture of high-value species will also be discussed with relevance to how the addition of AI in these cultures will significantly aid in the diminishing population and escalating demand.
