Nanoparticles and nanostructured materials find applications in the food, biomedical and pharmaceutical sectors, typically either as carrier vehicles, as active ingredient or as diagnostic agents. Reports on the synthesis of such nanostructured particles, their characterization and/or performance are the focus of this session. Of special interest are strategies to control functionality during synthesis or post (surface-) modification of the nanostructured particles. Discussions on the toxicological aspects of their application are most welcome but not mandatory. Focus areas include, but are not limited to: • Synthesis & applications of novel polymeric, inorganic and lipid nanomaterials for biomedical, food and pharmaceutical applications • Nanoscale materials and devices for biomedical applications • Bionanotechnology • Biosensing • Nanoparticle interfaces and (bio)functionalization • Nanoscale lipid assemblies for active ingredient delivery • Modeling & simulation of nanocarriers.
