(395h) Enhancing Teamwork in Unit Operations Lab: A Review of Peer Assessment Tools

Teamwork is a fundamental component of the Unit Operations Lab (CBE 154) at UC Berkeley, where nearly all assignments are collaborative. Ensuring fair and equitable participation among team members is crucial for fostering both individual accountability and collective success. Peer assessment serves as a key mechanism to assess contributions, promote fairness, and encourage engagement within teams. A variety of peer assessment tools exist, ranging from traditional paper-based methods to modern, online platforms, both free and paid. This poster introduces several peer assessment tools, including ITP Metrics, CATME, and Peerceptiv, highlighting their core features, advantages, and limitations. We also present insights from our experience implementing these tools in CBE 154, discussing their impact on team dynamics and student engagement. Based on our findings, we offer recommendations for their effective use in enhancing balanced and productive teamwork in academic settings. We welcome feedback and further discussion on refining peer assessment strategies to better support equitable and effective teamwork.
