(496b) Blend Time Prediction: Effect of Dosing Location and Impeller Rpm Using CFD Approach

In the current study, the effect of different dosing location and rpm on blend time is studied in a single use mixing vessel. A Stress-Blended Eddy Simulation (SBES) turbulence model newly implemented on GPU will be used. The SBES model combines the benefit of Large Eddy Simulation (LES) away from the walls where it provides superior accuracy in free-shear flow field prediction with RANS turbulence models which are efficient and accurate in capturing the viscous effects near stationary/rotating walls. The model will first be verified against available experimental data for predicting velocity distribution in a mixing tank. Then, the model will be implemented on the single use mixing vessel of interest. Finally, results of blend time, power, P/V for the different rpms and dosing locations will be used to construct a reduced-order model (ROM) which then can be used for quick prediction.
