(442d) Opportunities and Challenges Along the Path to Sustainability

Sustainability considerations focus attention on the impact of some proposed process, product, or activity on the environment, the economy, and society. As such, expertise across many different disciplines is required to identify and then assess adequately the different dimensions of sustainability. This brief talk will recap advances to date in assessing and progressing toward sustainability, seek to identify obstacles in the path ahead, and suggest ways they might be removed or circumvented.
