2016 AIChE Annual Meeting

Session: Mid-Career Faculty Forum: What Comes after Tenure? (Invited Talks)

Congratulations! All of your hard work has paid off and you’ve received tenure and/or been promoted. Now what? In this session, we explore various career options for mid-career faculty once they have achieved the freedom of tenure. This is a key transition where the faculty can engineer their path to full professor, teacher of the year, academic leadership, entrepreneurship, or other. Alternatively, if a mid-career faculty member does not forge his/her own path, it can sometimes be forged by their department, university or others. In this session, we will highlight 3 – 5 approaches, with guest speakers describing the steps they took (before/during/after) to move their career in a desired pathway. There will also be a panel discussion at the end of the presentations to allow audience members to ask more direct questions. While this is an invited speaker session, the session chairs will also consider unsolicited abstracts submitted by the deadline.
