Session: Sustainable Building Design II

The design, construction, and operation of buildings has an unavoidable effect on the environment and society. There is a growing interest in designing buildings that attempt to minimize these potentially detrimental effects through implementing sustainable site selection, energy efficiency, water conservation, safe material selection, and improved indoor air quality. This general movement towards buildings that are intrinsically linked to and attempt to minimize the ecological effects of their design and operation is termed ‘sustainable’ or ‘green’ building design. This session will address a variety of topics related to sustainable building; from case studies and specific lessons learned to post occupancy evaluation or performance metrics. Papers regarding any aspect of sustainable or green building are invited; progress or innovation in the field will be highlighted in conjunction with fundamental principles of sustainable building.
