(80c) Viennagreen CO2 Capture Pilot Plant Laboratory De-Risking, Design and Testing Objectives
In order to maintain its leadership position, Shell has joined, in 2015, the ViennaGreenCO2 consortium which aims at developing the most cost competitive and environmentally friendly CO2 capture technology in the world. This CO2 capture technology uses a heat regenerable solid adsorbent in conjunction with 2 multi-stage fluidized beds where CO2 adsorption and desorption occur.
The project has a duration of 4 years and is comprised of 3 main phases:
-
Phase 1: Laboratory de-risking tests (e.g cold flow modelling, isotherm measurement) & process modelling.
-
Phase 2: Design, Engineering & Construction of a 1 ton CO2 per day pilot plant.
-
Phase 3: Piloting campaign & Economic evaluation.
The pilot plant operation is scheduled to commence in late Q2 2018. Therefore, only Phase 1 and 2 along with the pilot testing program objectives will be presented to the audience.
