Model based Real time performance monitoring for Operational Excellence
Author
Manufacturing plants are in a constant state of flux with ever changing operating conditions, equipment failures, changing product grades etc. In addition, companies have to deal with minimizing energy and emissions and maximizing utilization and profitability-driving Operational Excellence.
Engineers are accustomed to using plant information and process simulators primarily on a stand-alone basis. Such tools potentially solve problems over a short period-similar to a band-aid approach-without perspective on past and future performance issues. This presentation is focused on using modern dashboard tools that tap in to the power of process simulation and modeling tools, as well as integrate with data sources like historian and control systems to provide real-time performance monitoring (RPM) capabilities to companies. In addition, RPM tools provide predictive analytics and ability to add custom calculations on the dashboards that can provide valuable insight on future performance and resolve problems before they occur. The overarching objective of RPM is to achieve Operational Excellence. Case studies will be presented from various industry verticals on the configuration, implementation and benefits of such RPM systems in operating plants.
