Process Hazard Analyses (PHAs) lay the foundation of process safety management yet are often time consuming due to the extensive effort required for data extraction/ analysis, hazard identification, and risk assessment. This presentation introduces an AI-driven approach for a tool that leverages computer vision and natural language processing to facilitate extraction of equipment tags, descriptions, and key process parameters from P&IDs, and populate the PHA worksheet with proposed causes and consequences. Utilizing AI for initial data capture, teams can dramatically reduce worksheet preparation time and minimize transcription errors. The remaining PHA steps—hazard identification, consequence severity assessment, risk ranking, and mitigation planning—are conducted through standard PHA workflows, ensuring full compliance with industry regulations, data verification by the PHA team while dramatically improving efficiency and data accuracy.
