Invited Talk: Overview of Aquaculture Innovation Centre (AIC)

Countries across the world are battling the worsening impacts of climate change, water scarcity and population growth to find better ways to feed their people. Singapore imports more than 90% of its food. As a result, local food production is becoming a core component of the food security roadmap.
This year the Singapore Food Agency (SFA) has set the target of producing 30% of Singaporeâs nutritional needs by 2030, up from less than 10% today. A move targeted at improving food security and strengthen resilience of Singaporeâs food supply. To get to the â30 by 30 visionâ, will require our agri-food industry to adopt new solutions to raise productivity, strengthening climate resilience, and overcoming our resource constraints through technologies.
Aquaculture Innovation Centre (AIC) (founded in June 2019) is a consortium of institutions and agencies adopting an inclusive and integrated approach to fulfil the objectives of serving the needs of the local aquaculture industry through collaboration and co-operation, co-sharing of expertise and facilities. The members of AIC include Ngee Ann Polytechnic, Republic Polytechnic, Temasek Polytechnic, James Cook University Singapore, Nanyang Technological University, National University of Singapore, SFA & A*STAR. The Centre serves as an excellent platform to drive aquaculture industry development, facilitate market opportunities and support government policies and regulations. The speaker will be sharing some of the industry engagement statistics and insights.
