In 2023, EN Engineering (ENTRUST Solutions Group) was engaged by an east coast dual fuel utility partner to design a hydrogen blending demonstration project. While several other blending pilot projects had been completed in the United States, this project was a bit different. This project aimed to demonstrate hydrogen blending as a potential solution for commercial and industrial clients for space heating needs. This project worked through numerous safety aspects of both pure hydrogen and blended hydrogen in natural gas for both utilities and end users. This talk will detail how site safety considerations, the site hazard analysis, and how identified risks were mitigated throughout the design process and modification of site operational plans.
