Reliability Mindset: Production Threat and Opportunities Identification through Frontline Workers Engagement

Front line engagement (FLE) is a focused approach to make Reliability Cultural change, impact positively on front lines staff´s deliverables to be visible and tangible. The desired result is a long-term goal and to achieve this it may take many years through continuous engagements, improvement measures. To outcome is a cumulative result of small-small steps to progress and manage this process.
The major objective of Front-Line Engagement process are:
- The process eventually helps evolve a reliability and process safety culture in the Plant
- Impart reliability concept required to possess reliability competency
- Guide and coach frontliners to be more proactive
- Helping to reduce unplanned and process safety events by human factor by erroneous acts
- Cultivate participation in reliability by front liners.
This is achieved through the following steps:
- Engage with frontliners and identify the need for support and existing gaps in relation to reliability and process safety competencies required to fulfil their daily routines
- Preparing and developing gap closure plan for frontliners by coaching /training.
- Encourage and engage front liners (on a continuous basis) to participate and contribute to reliability and process safety.
- Training front liners to identify find small fix small concept (proactive approach)
- Participating frontliners to identify and report proactive identification of hidden threats in plant.
Desired outcome:
Operators and maintenance participate or implement actions where they can personally and positively impact reliability and process safety. Example: identify threats in their areas. Front-line leaders have the authority and regularly practice recognizing and rewarding preventive efforts. Operators and maintenance provide detailed information on failures in their shift logs or in CMMS maintenance history capture. Front-line staff shows proactiveness and show eagerness to contribute and be part of a progressive team supporting company goals and initiatives focus on optimization, continuous improvements and quality-oriented approach.
