2025 Spring Meeting and 21st Global Congress on Process Safety

(119b) Process Safety Leadership during Change

Change seems to come at us faster each year. New technologies and faster markets compete with ever higher bars for safe and environmentally friendly operations. Mergers, acquisitions, and more fluid careers yield opportunities, but also mean more turnover in the workforce. How does a process safety professional cut through potential distractors and protect people and the environment?

This presentation looks at the challenges facing many process safety professionals as they attempt to lead and influence process safety culture during ever accelerating change. The presentation will discuss how to upskill leaders, build new programs, develop new process safety talent, and build a culture where process safety is the foundation. Examples will be taken from the author’s experience leading process safety during two separate acquisitions in upstream onshore oil and gas operations. Examples will pull from a range of process safety topics including PHA, Consequence modeling, MOC, training and competency, PSI, and most importantly the soft skills that make them all work.
