(155b) Temperature Measurement Best Practices
Author
Greg McMillan - Presenter, Emerson Automation Solutions
Temperature measurement is the key to controlling the energy balance and the composition in many unit operations. The ability of various sensors and thermowell designs are extensively reviewed along with installation techniques. Details are offered on the best sensor insertion in a thermowell and the installation in equipment and pipelines along with wiring and transmitter location. The goal is to provide a temperature measurement with the least drift and the best linearity, repeatability, resolution, rangeability, reliability, and response time. A list of suggested best practices is provided to address nearly all practical issues faced in an industrial process application.
