(32cl) Bowtie Methodology: Importance and Cases of Its Applicability for Hazard Identification and Control Measures

The versatility of the Bowtie methodology to analyze various disciplines such as finance, health, safety and environment, and mainly process safety, makes it a tool that has gradually increased its importance and use globally. Being a graphical tool that allows understanding of safety events, from its causes to its consequences, it is a very valuable resource for risk management, which is easily adapted to the specific needs of each area, providing a complete and integrated solution. The objective of this presentation is to show and discuss the different uses of this Bowtie tool in Process Safety, presenting real cases of its applicability for Hazard Identification and its control measures (safeguards), helping companies in making decisions about whether the current level of control is sufficient and identifying where resources would have the best result. Likewise, cases will be presented where the Bowtie methodology helped in good risk communication, due to its clear graphical representation and also, its use in the identification of safety critical equipment (SCE) through safeguards considered independent.
