(112d) Update on Lummus SRT-eTM Electric Cracking Heater Demonstration and Applications

This paper presents an update on the Lummus SRT-e electric cracking heater. The SRT-e unit cell is based on modular platform that uses electrical resistance heating elements rather than hydrocarbon-based fuel burners. This paper provides an update on the Commercial Demonstration Unit (CDU) which has been built and commissioned at Lummus Pasadena Research and Development Facility using the same full-scale components used in the commercial scale SRT-e application. Some indicative applications of the SRT-e electric cracking technology are provided including capacity expansions, replacement of recycle heaters or electric heaters for dedicated renewable feedstocks and/or waste plastic pyrolysis oil. Consideration is given to the disposal of excess fuel gas, as well as plant-level partial electrification when availability of green power is limited.
