The United States Occupational Safety and Health administration’s (OSHA) Process Safety Management (PSM) of Highly Hazardous Chemicals standard was promulgated in 1992; 33+ years ago. Different than most other regulations/standards, OSHA’s 29 CFR 1910.119 is a performance-based standard. That means PSM compliance is a moving target (dynamic) and having a PSM incident means you are out of compliance. The only way to be “in compliance” is by using the best available process, people, technology and continually improving. The right PSM software (Technology) can enable PSM execution and help you get as close to compliant as possible. Automating each element for optimal execution is a starting point. Having all the elements automated and connected is ideal. Leveraging the data inside your PSM system to trend, learn and improve continuously is needed to keep up and excel.

Today, technology can also help answer the question, “What is the riskiest operation in my enterprise and why?” Today we can use dashboards with trends and charts to answer this question. But soon we will be able to leverage Artificial Intelligence (AI) to answer that question in even more depth. Once we know what needs to be improved and why, then your Connected PSM System can help you make the changes that are required to lower that risk and change the risk profile of your company. That is the subject of this presentation.
