- (66c) How to Mitigate Reactive Hazards
The need to mitigate reactive hazards in the chemical industry is evident, but ensuring it is done adequately is imperative. This presentation gives a high-level overview of how to identify reactive hazards, quantify reactive upset scenarios with adiabatic calorimeters, and size emergency relief systems with consideration of two-phase flow. Often it is thought that venting the relief line to the atmosphere is adequate, however this is rarely the case especially when two-phase flow is considered. Attendees will learn the importance of downstream considerations with the basics of dispersion analysis and options for effluent handling systems.
