(40b) Process Safety Culture Challenges in Developing Region
Authors
This paper describes the technical & behavioral systems, best practices, maturing steps and improvement initiatives FFL has successfully implemented in past 10 years to improve the process & behavioral safety culture, operational excellence and reliability of site. FFL has dealt with the challenges like lack of safety culture & absence of process safety laws in the region and shifted its paradigm from reactive culture approach to interdependent culture approach. As a result of successful development and implementation of strong & resilient process safety culture at each & every level of company including 3rd party workers, FFL is currently at Excellence level in Process Safety Management System (Assessed by Dupont Twice in 2017 & 2021) and also achieved Guinness World Records for Safe Man-hours in Fertilizer Industry across the globe.
Safety has no holiday and there is no room for complacency in this journey. Achieving an excellence is not a destination, it is a continuous journey and FFL aims to sustain the goals of its process safety program. To ensure the substance of this program, FFL instilled and maintained a sense of vulnerability program at the site and shifting its approach from conventional PSM model to Risk Based Process Safety Model.
The paper also includes the Organizations' vision & future plans on sustaining and further improving process safety culture as per changing & challenging scenarios across the globe especially post COVID-19.
