(135b) Digitalization: A Key Enabler for Energy Transition and Sustainability

Sustainability is an integral part of any business today. It is important for us to enable others to drive sustainable growth and transform their industries.

Our DEGREE framework is a set of strategic ambitions for the benefit of our stakeholders on the topics of environment, social and governance. As a key business that enables advanced engineering simulation, we see it playing a critical role in all aspects of engineering. We consider moving away from the two-way balance of Cost vs (Energy) Efficiency to a three-way balance of Cost-Efficiency-Sustainability a shift in the paradigm of how engineering simulation and organization wide digitalization tools can be used and applied in future of the “production-conversion-utilization” cycle in the energy and chemicals field.

In this talk, we will present first a dive into the meaning of energy transition& sustainability. We will follow that with goals and achievements in sustainability; especially highlighting how technologies in simulation & digitalization enable achievement of those goals with some examples from energy and chemical industries. And we will conclude with some thought provoking questions and challenges for young engineers.
