Global efforts are well underway in a variety of industries to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. In order to achieve goals set by the 2015 Paris Agreement and 2018 UN IPCC revision, global emissions must be reduced 45% by 2030, and 100% by 2015 to bring atmospheric warming levels within a safe region. Industrial fossil fuel combustion processes generate about 16% of total U.S. carbon dioxide emissions (13% of total U.S. greenhouse gas emissions), and combustion of fossil fuels generates 31% of total U.S. carbon dioxide emissions (24% of total U.S. greenhouse gas emissions) as of 2020. Combined, combustion assets account for about 47% of total carbon dioxide emissions in the US, and 37% of total U.S. greenhouse gas emissions. Naturally, thereâs a heavy focus in the U.S. on implementing deep decarbonization strategies to support efforts for net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. This topic will focus on how developments in TDLAS technology can support advanced control efforts for fired assets to safely reduce carbon dioxide emissions via less fuel usage and increases in efficiency.
