2018 Spring Meeting and 14th Global Congress on Process Safety

Session: Smart Manufacturing I

Smart manufacturing is a subset of manufacturing that employs IT network, advanced process simulator, optimal control and high levels of adaptability. Smart manufacturing aims to take advantage of advanced information and manufacturing technologies, transform the conventional energy resource exploration, refining, petrochemical, bio and pharmaceutical sectors into a connected, information-driven environment. Using real-time and high-value support systems across entire manufacturing ecosystem (supply chains, complete product lifecycles, multiple industries, and small, medium and large enterprises), smart manufacturing enables a coordinated and performance-oriented manufacturing enterprise that responds quickly to customer demands and minimizes energy and material usage, while radically improving sustainability, productivity, innovation, and economic competitiveness. This session aims to highlight examples of successful methodologies and/or strategies that have been effectively developed for Smart Manufacturing system, or the successful application of Smart Manufacturing methodology to solve process / manufacturing problems, to optimize the process with significant performance improvements, or advanced optimization for the process design, new mega project planning-scheduling-construction, or identifying scientific factors and challenges for the further smart manufacturing of chemical and petrochemical processes.
