(52f) The Feasibility of Replacing Electric Drives with Wind Energy in the Swro System
The feasibility of substituting electricity in the Sea Water Reverse Osmosis (SWRO) process with wind energy is considered in this article.
The SWRO process is divided into very high and medium pressure areas. The medium pressure areas are listed below;
- Sea water cleaning and conditioning section
- High purity water conditioning
- Product water export
The hydraulic system for the medium pressure areas consists of pipe networks that supply Pelton or turbine drives (P-drives) for pumps. The energy input to the hydraulic network is from wind turbine driven pumps.
The very high pressure area of the SWRO unit is a once through system. A wind turbine-pump pair capable of producing the required head is considered.
