(194e) Flameless Thermal Oxidizer Operating Experience
Author
Irrgang, G. - Presenter, Linde Engineering North America
In 2002 two Flameless Thermal Oxidation systems designed to destroy VOC components and halogenated hydrocarbons were started up at a Dow Chemical (now Olin Chemical) VCM plant in Freeport, TX. The justification for selecting this technology over other common flame based thermal oxidizers was mainly based on the high destruction efficiency of the gaseous hazardous components with low NOx formation required in the Houston non-attainment zone. Since the units were started the on-line availability has exceeded 99% and the cost of operation has proven to be an additional advantage of the technology. This presentation by Olin, Dow and Selas Linde (technology provider) will describe the technology and present operating experience with the FTO units.
