(188b) Distillation Performance Characteristics of RMP-Type Standard and High Capacity Structured Packings

A number of RVT´s structured packings, including both conventional as well as high capacity packings, have recently been tested at the Separations Research Program (SRP). Among these packings include also two modifications of the current high capacity packings.

The packings were tested using the standard cyclohexane/n-heptane system at four operating pressures. Mass transfer efficiency, pressure drop and hydraulic capacity of the new modifications will be presented.

Highlighting specific results, one of these modifications resulted in a 30% lower pressure drop with 15% higher hydraulic capacity while maintaining the same mass transfer efficiency than state of the art high capacity structured packings.
