(135c) Inherently Safer Design

Inherently Safer Design is a way of thinking differently from traditional hazard management. Instead of applying additional lawyers of safety to a process, the hazards may be eliminated or reduced through changes in materials, chemistry or process.

This paper will address the strategies of inherently safer design, the application of these strategies in projects, new technology facility modifications and changes in existing operations, how hazard and risk studies support these strategies, planning and conducting reviews.

Considerations for production targets, scheduling design and construction, location and separation of hazards, staffing, operating and maintenance and novel or never - tried technology ideas will be brain stormed and discussed while concluding this presentation.
