(106a) The Role of Chemical Engineer in Enabling Reliable Operations
Reliable operations depends on many factors as effective equipment strategies, excellence in maintenance execution, responsive defect elimination, built-in reliability, and equipment operating windows monitoring to name a few. Reliability has a strong process engineering component which is contributed by the Chemical Engineer. Equipment strategies depend on comprehensive operating instructions detailing normal, start-up, and shutdown procedures. Predictive maintenance has a basis in equipment operating windows for critical equipment that has both quantitative and qualitative elements. The Chemical Enginer is key in establishing these windows in order to keep the process "within the gutters". The Chemical Engineer's interface with Maintenance is key in aligning process needs with equipment capabilities. This presentation and paper will detail the contributions Chemical Engineers make to reliable operations. It will discuss the importance of their involvement in triad of Engineering,Maintenance, and Operations in order for the assets to perform as intended.
