2014 Spring Meeting & 10th Global Congress on Process Safety
(80c) The Legal Requirements Of The PSM Standard: Finding Your Way
Many process safety professionals do not fully understand the basic legal requirements of the PSM standard. A significant reason for this lack of knowledge among process safety professionals is that PSM standard is not one of model clarity. Due to the performance-oriented language in the PSM standard, process safety professionals often equate best practices as legal requirements. It is important that process safety professionals understand the distinction between best practices and legal requirements because of the legal risks associated with non-compliance with the PSM standard.
Attendees will learn the distinction between best practices and legal requirements of the fourteen elements of the PSM standard. With this knowledge, attendees will be able to assist in the development and implementation of a PSM program in compliance with the PSM standard and therefore minimize legal risks associated with the program.
