Author

Jensen, C. D., Colorado School of Mines

This presentation provides an overview of why and how to obtain a Professional Engineering (PE) license in the United States and its territories. It presents the rationale for PE licensure and describes the education, work experience, and all exam requirements to become licensed. The presentation will also briefly discuss the importance of the Model Law maintained by the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES). It covers the role NCEES plays in the overall licensing process and its relationship to the individual licensing boards. The presentation provides background information for the developing issues such as the controversial Masters or Equivalent (MOE) requirement and the Industrial Exemption rules. These are presented in more detailed examination by other speakers in this session.
