Furnace Burner Management System Design for New Furnaces
This presentation will show the major process upsets in a furnace requiring BMS action. A short summary of typical risk ranking (and influencing factors) of these upsets will be given as well as typical control actions to be released in addition to avoid escalation and to avoid/limit damages.
Present codes and regulations such as EN 746-2 / NFPA 86 typically require the installation of flame monitoring devices to be part of the burner management system (BMS). These flame monitoring devices are susceptible to damage/maintenance. Many companies ask for a furnace safety concept without flame scanners, especially in case of existing furnaces without flame scanners. A philosophy to avoid installation of flame scanners will be shown.
