(103a) Dynamic Real-Time Optimization of an Alkylation Unit

Chevron has recently completed a number of Closed-loop, Dynamic, Real-time Optimization projects. The approach taken differs from conventional RTO projects based on a rigorous steady-state model of the process. Instead, the model includes both steady-state and dynamic elements and the model scope and rigor is adapted to the specific needs of the application. The motivation for this approach is presented, along with a description of the technology used. Some results from a recent Alkylation unit application will be discussed.
