(146b) Design Challenges in Tankage Modernization
Author
Kong, J. - Presenter, WorleyParsons
In order to comply with regulation requirements, a refinery needs to perform major revamps to produce different grades of Diesel, namely ULSD, Off-road Grade and Regular Diesel. The existing tankage allocation needs to be changed to accommodate the hydrotreater feed components and the new products. Feed and product rates of the diesel hydrotreater can also change significantly. This paper will discuss the various modifications necessary to existing tanks, piping, and pumps and the design requirements for new nitrogen blanketing systems. The paper will also address existing pressure-vacuum vents (PV vents) on the tanks and how they can meet API requirements. This paper will discuss these challenges as well as others encountered when revamping an existing tank farm.
