(69b) Flare Minimization at LNG Receiving Terminal

The LNG (liquefied natural gas) receiving terminal is an important sector of the entire LNG value chain. The handling of boil-off gas (BOG) during LNG re-gasification at LNG-receiving terminals significantly influences the BOG flare emission and the energy consumption. In this paper, thermodynamic analysis-based design and operation methods are integrated to recover BOG with the minimum total energy consumption, a goal of which is to provide a cost-effective flare minimization strategy at LNG receiving terminals. Case studies demonstrate both design and operational improvements will provide energy-saving flare minimization opportunities. The presented rigorous models and thermodynamic analysis also provide a fundamental understanding of LNG re-gasification operations, which is valuable for industrial applications.
