(23c) Implementing PSM Globally

Author

Process safety management implementation is complex because it crosses over many functional areas of an organization, including operations, engineering, technical, R&D, maintenance, sourcing, and construction. The development, implementation and continuous improvement of a standardized and sustainable global process safety management system is essential for business success, including the maintenance of an effective PSM organizational structure, planning, implementation, and performance measurement at the site, business, and corporate level. This paper will review the current global structure and work processes associated with process safety management in the DuPont Company, including PSM competency team and regional organizations, functional roles and responsibilities, leadership involvement, management of internal PSM standards, technical training, risk communications, leveraging common tools and applications, and PSM performance measurement. Current challenges and future improvement activities associated with global PSM managing systems will also be discussed.
