This paper discusses how process automation has helped NOVA Chemicals enable operational excellence through the formation of its Automation Steering Team and its approach to automation life-cycle management. NOVA Chemicals' vision for process automation is to ?astutely employ process automation expertise, technology and sustainable infrastructure.? This program started in 2003 and continues today where resources, applications and systems are leveraged across NOVA. NOVA's strategy and experiences on the challenges of removing barriers and working effectively with stakeholders and suppliers of technologies will be presented. Capital portfolio management, DCS, PLC and SIS migration will be discussed along with an example of a DCS migration plan.
