Two types of Gemini ionic liquids were synthesized with pyridineAN-butylimidazole and 1,2-dibromoethane as raw materials. N-Butylimidazole reacted with 1,2-dibromoethane to form N-Butyl-N'-ethyldiimidazole(I), (I) reacted with Ammonium hexafluorophosphate to give N-Butyl-N'-ethyldiimidazole hexafluorophosphate. The monofactorial experiment and orthogonal experiment were applied to get the optimum processing conditions. The optimum processing conditions of Gemini ionic liquids were, with water as solvent, the appropriate proportion of pyridine and 1,2-dibromoalkane was 2.6:1, the temperature of reaction was 65°C, the time of reaction was 8h. Pyridine reacted with 1,2-dibromoethane to form N-bromoethyl pyridine, and then reacted with N-butylimidazole to give the asymmetric Gemini ionic liquids. The optimum processing conditions were, with ethyl acetate as solvent, the temperature of reaction was 55°C, the appropriate proportion of pyridine and 1,2-dibromoethane was 1:1.3, the temperature of reaction was 65°C, the time of reaction was 5h. The chemical composition of these production were identified by IR and NMR.
