(100d) Compressor Fouling Caused by Capacity Increase without Knockout Pot Redesign

Author

Following the rerate of a cracked gas compressor to increase capacity, severe fouling occurred in the 2nd and 3rd stages. The root cause was determined to be inadequate capacity of the suction knockout pot since it was not revised. This paper will explain how this lead to fouling and what was done to fix it.
