As part of the development of the NSF Active Chemistry innovative K-12 curriculum project, 3 challenges were developed on sustainability. This paper will present an overview of how Active Chemistry teaches chemistry concepts from an open ended problem solving context and will review the sustainability chapters which address issues of water purification, sustainable materials and fuel cells for transportation.
