A series of 3 LNG fire tests on a insulated concrete dike was conducted in July & September of 1987. Only limited data from these tests has been published before. This paper first presents the details of the tests conducted, types of data measured and the difficulties encountered in planning and executing large field tests. Secondly, data on fire spectral measurements made during these tests are indicated. Analysis and comparison with similar data from the China Lake LNG fire on water tests are provided. Also indicated in this paper are other important fire characteristics (size, radiation, etc) measured during these experiments and the comparison of measured results with those from other LNG fire experiments. The importance of these results in modeling the behavior of large LNG fires and predicting the thermal emissions from fires postulated to occur from large LNG releases are discussed.
