(222c) Risk Comparison of off Shore Vs. Onshore LNG Terminals
More than 50 new LNG terminals are proposed for North America. There have been concerns about the potential hazards posed by these facilities, especially onshore LNG terminals. Some believe the solution lies offshore through the use of floating or gravity based LNG terminals. Each type of terminal, whether onshore or offshore, poses common and distinctive hazards. Based on risk analysis of offshore and onshore LNG terminals, main contributors of the facility hazards can be identified. From the identified hazards, a risk profile is generated and compared for each terminal type.
