This session will discuss advances in connectivity and sensing that are providing new capabilities in process manufacturing. Topics of interest include the synthesis of data streams from numerous sources for manufacturing advances, the Industrial Internet of Things, connected equipment and plants, smart sensor applications in process manufacturing, and applications of soft sensors in manufacturing with demonstrated benefits on an industrial scale or high-fidelity simulations. Submissions from industry and national labs are welcome to facilitate discussion at the industry/national lab/academic interface. Changes in behavior or policy related to increasing connectivity and sensing are also topics within the scope of this session.
