Dr. Handan Tezel is a professor in the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering at the University of Ottawa. Over the years, her team’s contribution to the development of promoted activated aluminas and of zeolite/alumina composites has been significant. In their University of Ottawa lab, Dr. Tezel and her students measured several key properties of adsorbents such as Henry’s law constants, single component isotherms, capacity to remove trace impurities to improve safety, etc. This work resulted in the development of commercially successful adsorbents that are to this day used in several industrial applications for both the production of industrial gases and various petrochemicals.

Through her dedication to the field of adsorbents and her leadership, several students were able to obtain either master degrees or doctorate (Ph.D.) degrees. She also supervised the work of many undergraduate students. Dr. Tezel’s work resulted in the publication of several peer-reviewed papers, and she is known on a global basis in both academic circles and in industry.

Axens Canada manufactures promoted activated aluminas and zeolite/alumina composites at its factory in Brockville, Ontario, Canada. Air Products and Chemicals, Inc. [APCI] supplies essential industrial gases, technologies and applications expertise to customers worldwide.
