(481c) Invited Talk 3: NSF Engineered Plants in Culture (EPiC) - Biomanufacturing in Low Resource Environments with Karen Mcdonald from UC Davis

Author

Karen McDonald - Presenter, University of California, Davis
This invited talk with Karen McDonald from UC Davis will discuss their recent NSF award- Engineered Plants in Culture (EPiC) - Biomanufacturing in Low Resource Environments led by UC Davis.

The Engineered Plants in Culture (EPiC) project at UC Davis is developing technology for biomanufacturing using plants and plant tissues in bioreactors with minimal resource use. This research aims to enable the production of foods, medicines, and other biomaterials in remote and low-resource environments, such as on Earth or in space, by using engineered plants, embryos, and fast-growing aquatic plants. The project focuses on addressing scientific challenges through a combination of plant biology and bioprocess engineering, genetic editing, and novel, low-cost bioreactor designs.
