(564d) Evolution of Membrane Operations in Bioprocessing from Early TFF to ATF, Tfdf and Single Pass TFF

Membrane technologies have significantly advanced bioprocessing, evolving from early applications in sterilizing-grade and tangential flow filtration to more sophisticated methods such as virus filtration, alternating flow, and single-pass filtration. Key progress has come from a deeper understanding of fouling mechanisms, the role of fluid mechanics, and the impact of scale—driven by strong collaborations between industry and academia. This presentation will highlight recent developments in enhancing the performance of current membrane systems, including ATF, TFDF, and single-pass TFF, while illustrating how shared knowledge within the technical community has accelerated innovation. New data on emerging technologies will also be presented.
