(132c) Electrolyte Transport in Porous Media

Author

Ankur Gupta - Presenter, Princeton University
Porous materials are widely used in electrochemical devices. However, our mathematical understanding of electrolyte transport within porous media remains limited. Existing models often make inaccurate predictions by neglecting confinement effects and the interactions between the electrical double layer and redox reactions. Over the past few years, our group has systematically addressed these shortcomings by developing a comprehensive theoretical framework for predicting double-layer charging in complex networks of long pores. This framework enables the simulation of electrolyte transport in thousands of pores within minutes, bridging a critical knowledge gap and paving the way for the rational design of next-generation electrochemical devices. The talks will also explore emerging opportunities in the field and potential research directions for those interested in transport phenomena.
