Recent studies have demonstrated the potential of micro/nanotextured oil coated surfaces for improving various engineering processes including heat transfer. The utility of these new class of materials is attributed to the absence of contact line pinning, which gives rise to record low contact angle hysteresis, remarkable droplet mobility, and ultra-low drop friction. In this talk, I will discuss our recent work on droplet dynamics on these surfaces. If time allows, I will discuss the use of these hemi-solid hemi-liquid surfaces in enhancing phase change heat transfer.
