This work reviews the pressing issue of polyolefin waste plastic depolymerization, a critical step towards mitigating plastic waste pollution and advancing the circular economy. With more than 5 billion metric tons of global plastics waste generated annually, the impact of using hydrogenolysis method to chemically depolymerize mixed plastic wastes and turn it into monomers and/or other useful chemicals has a great impact in solving the global environmental pollution problem and enhancing the circular economy of plastic wastes. A more economical way to depolymerize polyolefins is to use liquid organic hydrogen carriers as the source of hydrogen.
