Under the mentorship of Prof. Jay H. Lee, my doctoral research focused on developing methodologies and computer-aided tools for conducting techno-economic analysis (TEA) and life cycle assessment (LCA) of carbon capture and utilization (CCU) technologies. This work, which was applied in various government and industry-funded projects, aimed to support consistent and reliable evaluation of emerging chemical technologies. Now, as an independent researcher in academia, I am extending this foundation to a broader range of early-stage chemical technologies—such as hydrogen production and utilization systems, biorefineries, and next-generation batteries—by advancing TEA and LCA methodologies that address uncertainty, data gaps, and system integration challenges. This presentation reflects on the evolution of this research trajectory, rooted in systems thinking and inspired by Prof. Lee’s lasting influence.
