Session: Mixing of Highly Viscous and Non-Newtonian Fluids: What is Rheology and Why Should We Care?

Mixing of highly viscous and non-Newtonian fluids - what is rheology and why should we care? This workshop will start with an introduction into complex viscous and non- Newtonian fluids going through the fundamentals of rheology including simple rheology measurement techniques and basic rheological models that describe relevant fluids in our daily lives. We will then walk the students through the effects that non-Newtonian rheology have on simple fluid flow systems ranging from pipe flow to stirred reactors and multiphase systems of relevance in multiple industrial applications.
